I've redesigned and rewritten the Goat 1000 site in PHP. I've done this because it makes news updates and new downloads much easier to add to the site.

Just a quick note to say I've now got a Twitter feed thing. Since I don't update this site very often, I'm planning to make more frequent updates on there, and maybe use it for feedback on JPEG Saver, CRC Dropper or whatever. Here it is: Twitter

Just because I've stopped aiming for version 4 of JPEG Saver, it doesn't mean I've given up programming. So I'm releasing JPEG Saver version 3.2 today, which updates the PNG and Jasper libraries, adds a pause option to the navigation ('p' key for anyone who doesn't want to wade through the documentation) and moved the config files to the user's "Local Settings/Application Data" folder.
The reason for this last change is that it allows multiple users on the same machine to have their own JPEG Saver settings. It also keeps the config files out of the Windows system folder, which is a good thing from a security point of view.

It's been a long time since I last posted on here, so I thought it was about time I said something: I don't think there will be a JPEG Saver version 4. I did some more work on it last year, but in the end I realised that the amount of work to finish it would be too much for me to achieve in any reasonable time frame. Of course, I might change my mind at some point and come up with a better idea, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Not really news, more of a progress report. I've recently started on the changes that will end up in JPEG Saver version 4. The most important change is from using DirectDraw for double-buffering the transitions to full DirectX 9.0 transitions that will offload most of the processing to the graphics card. So far I have two of the old transitions working like this and two new transitions that would have been too slow to do before.
The other important change planned for version 4 is better and more complete support for multiple screens. I'd like to be able to have JPEG Saver running on multiple screens in such a way that they look like they are plugged into different computers. All of this is going to take me a while, so the next version is not likely to be available before the end of the year.
