K Cider

Cider again, and this one is really strong. I've had a couple of these cans waiting around for me to get up the nerve to try it.

Details

From the website:

A full strength, premium cider, K is produced with a unique blend of English apples to give the full-bodied cider flavours conveyed by its natural rich golden colour.

[This comes from an archive.org capture from 2012 - I can't find anything more recent about it.]

Expectations

It's a 500ml can of 7.5% ABV cider, so I'm expecting it to taste strong. I'm hoping it tastes of more than alcohol though.

Experience

It smells like cider, but not the sweet kind. The initial whiff actually reminded me of the stuff we used to get in big plastic jerry-can type containers from random shops in Somerset.

Appearance-wise, the colour is a normal amber-yellow cider colour and quite clear. It looks nothing like the random stuff we used to get in big plastic jerry cans, as that looked like a farmer had cleaned his socks in it.

It's really fizzy, and the bubbling zone where I poured it into the glass looked almost angry. I had to cover my glass to keep the bubble spray from making my keyboard sticky.

It tastes strong, so no surprise there. It's not sweet though, which is a relief because I don't like ciders that are too sweet. It is actually quite bitter and has a sharp, acidic taste. It's not quite vinegary, but I don't think it would take much to push it that way.

On the whole it tastes like cider - strong, dry cider. I'm not going to rush out and buy more, but I like it more than sweet ciders or ciders with other random fruits added in.

Verdict

4/5 : A very strong, dry cider. I quite like it. One can is enough though.
