Cottage Delight Snow Balls

Time for another Christmas-themed beer, a light, hoppy ale to go with the dark, dreary days of midwinter. Except it's June now, and I'm drinking it anyway.

Details

From the bottle:

A classic light and hoppy ale, packed with aromatic floral aromas.

Expectations

Another beer that is completely new to me. The blurb on the bottle says it's hoppy and has aromatic aromas, so it should smell nice. I just hope it tastes good too.

Experience

It's a pale yellow, and foamed a lot when I first poured it. The smell is sweet and hoppy. I don't sniff a lot of flowers, so there could well be something floral in it, but not anything I would recognise.

There are a lot of bubbles in this beer, and after two attempts to pour it all into my glass I still had some beer left in the bottle and 30mm of foam on top of the drink.

This could be the most stable beer foam I've seen yet, as there are still lumps of it 20mm high ten minutes after I poured it. Someone with a steady hand and this stuff on tap could make some quite intricate designs on top of a pint.

When I finally got around to tasting the beer it was quite bitter, without much hoppy flavour. The aftertaste is slightly sweet, and there is something in it that I might call floral, or possibly metallic. It is very subtle though.

Overall I quite like the taste, which is on the strong side, but it isn't a beer I would want to drink regularly - it's a bit too bitter for that.

And after finishing the drink there was still a lump of foam in my glass.

Verdict

3/5 : Foamy! Not bad, but wouldn't be my first choice.
