Cottage Delight Grumpy Santa

What better way to celebrate the last day of spring than by drinking a Christmas-themed beer? Probably drinking it while dancing around a bonfire and plastered with leaves or something, but I'm not doing that.

Details

From the bottle:

A well-balanced amber ale with a hint of citrus.

Expectations

I've not tried this beer before, but amber ale is usually my kind of thing. I don't mind a hint of citrus either, so I'm looking forward to something with an interesting bit of taste to it.

Experience

The colour of the beer is a nice gold or amber, the head is foamy, thick and quite stable and there is a slight smell of hops getting through it. It's quite bubbly too, lots of small bubbles rising through the fluid to meet the head.

The taste is pretty good. It isn't strong, slightly bitter, a bit hoppy. I don't think I detect anything that I would call citrus, so it must be a very subtle hint.

The bitterness seems to build as I drink my way down the glass, and I don't mind that at all. The citrus didn't show up, though I didn't miss it either.

I wouldn't call it very exciting or unusual, but it is pleasant enough. I would happily drink more of it.

Verdict

4/5 : A decent beer and I enjoyed it, but not the most interesting drink ever.
