Camden Hells Lager

My opinion of lager has changed a bit since I started doing these reviews. I've seen Camden around before, but never had the urge to try it until now. Is this another good one?

Details

From the website:

Hells is the lovechild of our two favourite German beer styles - Helles and Pilsner. Classic, crisp and refreshing. It's the beer we always wanted to drink and the reason we started our brewery. We hope you agree.

Expectations

It's a lager again, but not one I have ever tried before although I believe Camden is a fairly popular brewery. Anyway, I am in need of refreshment and a tasty lager might do the job quite well right now.

Experience

This is a really pale beer. It's a bit yellow, but it's probably the clearest thing I've had in my glass except for water. There's very little head on it, but plenty of quite small bubbles rising through the lager. It looks like a fizzy drink, but I can't say I have seen one this colour before.

The smell of the beer is barely there, but it seems slightly metallic to me. I sniffed the empty can afterwards to see if that was what I was detecting, but that doesn't smell of anything.

As for the taste - there is a taste. It's not a bad taste. I wouldn't say it was a good taste either. I'm having trouble describing the taste because it is almost non-existent.

I'm quite disappointed. I had expected a bit more from this beer, but it didn't deliver anything apart from something to drink.

Verdict

2/5 : This is what I always thought lager was like - tasteless.
