Budweiser Budvar Original
I'm fairly sure I have had Budweiser before, but that was the American-style Budweiser, not this Czech one. I have no idea what to expect.
Details
- Czech lager, 5% ABV
- 330ml bottle
From the website:
Brewed using whole-cone, Saaz hops from Žatec, pristine water from an Ice Age aquifer, Moravian malting barley and our heritage lager yeast, this classic rich and full-flavoured lager sets the gold standard for Czech brewing across the world. The tradition of cold-conditioning in our brewery cellars for seven times longer than most other beers creates a pale lager with a sweet, deep golden body and an aromatic, hoppy foam. Bold in taste, yet refreshing and perfectly balanced.
Expectations
I'm hoping for something light and refreshing. The pale green bottle makes this beer look really clean and clear, so it's a good start.
Experience
There is plenty of fizz in this beer, but it produced very little foam when I poured it into my glass. The beer is a clear, pale yellow, and it smells faintly yeasty. There are a surprising number of tiny bubbles rising through it, and it looks quite inviting.
The taste is pleasant - slightly bitter, quite sweet, though not very strong. There isn't much aftertaste to speak of, maybe a bit of a metallic tang.
I sort-of enjoyed it, but I would prefer a stronger taste than this - or even the same taste but hanging around a bit longer.
Verdict
3/5 : Not bad, but not really special either.
