JPEG Saver 5.46
Published
The last update wasn't very exciting, so I was determined to do something useful this time. To that end, I'm happy to add something that I have been asked about a few times.
G as in gabble, or G as in giraffe?
However you choose pronounce it, JPEG Saver now supports playing animated GIFs if you have video enabled. Most of the video controls will work, though you can't stop the animation looping. The seek controls work, but since animated GIFs are usually quite short I don't think seeking is all that important.
I have also added support for the transparent background in GIFs when used as a logo image item. And because I got that working I thought I had better support the alpha channel from HEIC / HEIF / AVIF files when they are used as logo images too.
But will animated GIFs used as logo images animate? No. Not yet. It's on the to-do list. APNG files and HEIC image sequences are on the to-do list as well.
What else?
Someone asked for more blurry blur options for the backgrounds, so I have added some in. Hopefully these are blurry enough.
I can't remember if anyone asked for this or not, but it has been on the to-do list since 2019: a shortcut key to scale images to 100%. Well, that really means not scaling at all, but you know what I mean. Anyway, since I already added all the zoom and pan controls in version 5.36 this was quite easy to add in. I've mapped it to Ctrl-R, but of course you can change that.
And the bugs...
There are a few fixed in this version:
- The message box that tells you when crash dumps have been found was repeatedly popping up in version 5.45, until you used Task Manager to kill it.
- Exif details were not being loaded from HEIC / HEIF / AVIF files.
- PNG images with an alpha channel loaded as the main image could display a garbled background.
- Dates before 1970 could not be formatted.
