Tennent's Lager
This is a beer that I've seen plenty of times, but never tried. I think I was probably put off by the bright red "T" on a plain yellow background, which reminds me of an American sports shirt or something like that.

From the website:
Scotland’s best-selling pint
Inspired by pilsner-style beers, Hugh Tennent embarked on a challenge in 1885 – to produce a delicious and refreshing Scottish lager that rivalled that of the amazing flavours he experienced in Bavaria.
Hugh was a true innovator, and he produced something that, at the time, was considered a “madman’s dream”.
Quality ingredients only
Brewed with simple, quality ingredients, Tennent’s Lager is made with the fresh highland water from Loch Katrine, exceptional Scottish malted barley, hops, and a unique historic strain of yeast. The perfectly balanced, crisp, refreshing taste that this produces is loved in bars, restaurants, and homes in every corner of Scotland and in over 60 countries worldwide. It’s no wonder that Tennent’s is the nation’s favourite drink!
Expectations
It's a lager, and it's "best-selling" in Scotland. That might mean it is good, or it might mean better lagers are hard to get hold of in Scotland. I haven't had much luck with the last couple of lagers I have tried, so I'm hoping this one has a decent taste.
Experience
The can has been in the fridge and I think the cold has suppressed the bubble activation a bit, so there isn't much head to speak of. There are plenty of quite large bubbles rising through the pale amber liquid, they are just not forming a foam on top.
The smell is slightly sulphurous malty yeast. It actually takes me back to the stuff my father would brew at home back in the 1980's. I'm sure he wasn't brewing Tennent's though.
The taste is actually pretty good - it's bitter, malty, slightly nutty. I'm relieved and pleasantly surprised. I had been a bit worried after the last couple of lagers turned out to be a bit lousy.
I am pleased to say that this is another decent lager, and I must learn not to judge a drink by its container.
Verdict
4/5 : I like it, it has an enjoyable taste. I would happily drink more.
