JPEG Saver 5.38
Published
Over time I add more and more stuff to JPEG Saver, and it eventually slows things down. So every now and then I have to spend some time speeding things up again. This is one of those versions.
I feel the need…
There are several things I have done in this version to make things run faster. I won't describe them in detail because none of them are very interesting, but the upside is that the initial file scan should be faster and changing between images should be faster. Also, the time JPEG Saver takes to build the file list at the start of each run should be shorter.
No colours anymore
There is one new option in this version, “Greyscale images” on the Position/Resize tab. It makes JPEG Saver display all the foreground images or videos in greyscale. It doesn't affect anything else.
Bugs and fixes
The bug I was looking into last time has been found and fixed - a strange IPTC tag was sending JPEG Saver into an endless loop after loading the image, which meant it never displayed the image and would eventually run out of memory. This one was hard to find because I didn't have any images that triggered it (and I still don't - none of the image creating and editing software I have tried would produce the IPTC tag that caused the trouble).
The “Wait for end of video” option was only waiting for the end of the video the first time it was played in a loop. If the delay between changing images/videos was longer than the video duration it would not wait for the end of subsequent plays, but now it does. I don't think I have explained that very well, but I think it works better now anyway.
If JPEG Saver fails to open an existing database it will now create a new one with an incrementing number in it. I might have to revisit this problem since it seems to be creating a new database more often than I expected - though that might be because I mess up my database more often than a normal user would too.
